One dead and over 20 injured in eatery blast in Guangdong

One person has died and more than 20 were injured in an explosion around noon today at a company lunchroom in Dongguan in south China’s Guangdong Province, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.

The explosion occurred at a lunchroom of the Dongguan branch of Sinopec, the government-owned energy giant, in the Zhongqiao Building on Qifeng Road. Ambulances are rushing to the scene. The dead and wounded are all company staff.

The blast is suspected of being caused by leaks of liquefied bottled gas, the report said. There was no fire along with the explosion.

The cause is under further investigation.
