One missing, four injured in SW China landslide
One person is missing and four sustained injuries after a landslide on Wednesday evening in Chongqing Municipality, southwest China.
The landslide occurred at 6:40 pm on the northern bank of the Daning River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, in Wushan County. Strong waves caused 13 vessels, mostly fishing boats, to sink.
An initial check showed all people onboard the anchored ships had gone ashore before the landslide. However, one person, who was on the bank, is unaccounted for and four others were injured, one of whom is in a critical condition, an official with the Yangtze River Navigational Affairs Administration said.
The search for the missing is under way.
Authorities suspended navigation on the section of the Yangtze near the landslide site to prevent secondary accidents.
The Three Gorges hydropower plant is unaffected. China Three Gorges Corp. is monitoring reservoir water levels.
