Opportunity for Vietnam as China drives reforms

THE development of China’s economy and Chinese market will provide sufficient space for further economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam, said Dang Minh Khoi, Vietnamese Ambassador to China.

The ambassador made the remarks in a recent interview with Xinhua news agency.

Speaking highly of China’s reform and opening up, the ambassador said he has full confidence in China’s economic development, which also means opportunities for Vietnam.

The governments of the two countries are making efforts to push forward cooperation on inter-connectivity.

Last year, a memorandum of understanding on joint implementation of the Belt and Road initiative and Vietnam’s “Two Corridors and One Economic Circle” plan was signed.

Under the guidance of the document, the ambassador believed that the cooperation between the two countries in all fields will be even closer. There have been plans to connect highways and high-speed railways between the two countries, he added.

There is great potential and high complementarity for bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and Vietnam has been China’s largest trading partner among all Southeast Asian countries for two consecutive years, he said.

In 2017, the trade volume between China and Vietnam exceeded US$100 billion and the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam surpassed 4 million, said the ambassador.

The people-to-people exchange between Vietnam and China is also very close, he said, adding there are over 300 passenger flights between the two countries every week. There is still much room for expansion in this area, he added.
