Over 100 pupils sickened by school lunch

MORE than one hundred pupils from a primary school in northeast China's Liaoning Province suffered suspected food poisoning and were sent to hospital this week.

The Jinzhou Pinghe Primary School pupils felt dizzy and started throwing up on Wednesday night, and parents suspected that the school lunch might have caused the problem, Liaoshen Evening Post reported.

The vice headmaster of Pinghe Primary School, surnamed Liu, told the newspaper that the school had reported the incident to a supervisor and started an investigation.

Liu said the school lunch was supplied by an outside enterprise and the supply has been stopped. Samples of Wednesday's lunch have been sent to the health administration for tests.

A doctor of Jinzhou Central Hospital, which accepted more than 40 sick pupils, told the paper that the symptoms suggested the possibility of food poisoning, but the exact cause could not be confirmed until the administration's report came out.
