Over 1.5 million sign petition against Occupy Central in HK
IN Hong Kong, the anti-Occupy Central group, Alliance for Peace and Democracy, says it has collected over 1.5 million signatures as of yesterday.
Their petition aims to support the police and calls for an end to the occupation of Hong Kong’s roads. As violence has erupted constantly over the last month and shadowed the stability and public security, many Hong Kong residents showed up yesterday to say ’No’ to Occupy Central.
The anti-Occupy Central group says that with roads occupied in central business districts like Causeway Bay, Central and Mong Kok, retailers and banks in such areas have suffered huge economic losses.
More than 40 banks were forced to close at the beginning of the protests and some have still not resumed business. Hong Kong’s stock market has plummeted even more sharply. Many local investors are concerned about the situation and are adopting a wait-and-see attitude.
