Over 2,700 venues raided in crackdown on Harbin sex and drug trade
MORE than 2,700 entertainment venues had been raided as of Thursday in a crackdown on the illegal sex and drug trade in Harbin in northeastern China’s Heilongjiang Province, Xinhua news agency reported.
Local police captured an escaped convict, detained 27 people and punished another 28 at the 2,700 locations being investigated in the crackdown.
Police also checked 1,600 vehicles and confiscated 18 regulated knives and 360 boxes of illegal fireworks, the report said.
Over 4,800 local police carried out the citywide crackdown from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, targeting hotels, karaoke bars, saunas and massage parlors.
The crackdown came after a China Central Television program on Sunday revealed that a dozen hotels in the southern Chinese city of Dongguan were offering sex services.
