PLA doctors punished for beating street vendor

NINE army doctors have been disciplined for fighting with a vendor over parking, Lanzhou Military Area Command of the People's Liberation Army said.

They drove a SUV to a restaurant in Lanzhou, capital of northwest Gansu Province and parked the car in front of a stall run by a 41-year-old man surnamed Liu, the local news portal, www.gscn.com.cn, reported today.

Their argument soon turned into a fist fight and Liu was hurt in the face and neck. Furious onlookers smashed the windows of the SUV and turned it upside down. Police were called in to control the unruly crowd, the report said.

Liu was sent to a hospital but his wounds were not serious.

The driver surnamed Yang, a doctor of the stomatology department, was sacked; his superior, the department director surnamed Wen was suspended from his job; and five other doctors were given administrative warnings, the report said.
