Paint your tombs green, or get bombed
PAINT your tombs green, or get them bombed – that's the official message to villagers in a southwest China county.
As a result, dozens of tombs on the mountains along a road in Yiliang County of Yunnan Province's Kunming City have been painted green. Some have been covered with green or black cloth to conceal the white structures, today's Chuncheng Evening News reported.
Villagers told the newspaper that village officials issued the decree 10 days ago and threatened that the tombs will be blasted and destroyed if they did not comply.
The officials told them the decree was from their superiors who said the tombs were an eyesore.
"It's the first time I've ever seen tombs get painted in all my 60 years," a villager who declined to be named told the newspaper.
