Painter wants justice in defaming video case

A Beijing artist said he would sue all netizens for infringement on his rights after an online video showed he and two girls leaving a boat and hinted that they had a sexual affair on the boat, a newspaper reported yesterday.

An Yunji, a 50-year-old painter, had dinner with some friends on a boat restaurant moored in the Houhai Lake in downtown Beijing on December 7 and sang some Peking Opera arias afterwards. The whole party was videotaped by a friend, An's agent told Qianjiang Evening News.

The agent surnamed Liu said the friend's brother uploaded the video to a video-sharing website and on December 16 a netizen identified as Feiyun posted part of the footage on several popular Chinese websites, claiming a monk had a sexual affair with two young girls. It soon became a hit on the Internet.

Liu said the artist is bald and was wearing a gown he bought from a Mount Wutai monastery, giving the impression that he was a monk. As he suffered from diabetes and had difficulty to walk, he was assisted by two young women who were his friends.

Liu said An was indignant about the video fabrication which he said had hurt his reputation and the reputation of Buddhist monks.

"It is no longer a damage to myself. It is also a damage to my friends," An said with anger. "I will sue all the netizens for their infringement on my rights!"
