Pair held for selling loot to their owners
POLICE in east China are questioning two people suspected of running a so-called lost-and-found company that sells stolen or robbed goods to their original owners.
Police said the two suspects who founded the Nanjing Dingbang Company would face criminal charges for their illegal business to help owners find their lost items in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, local Yangtze Evening News reported today.
Police found more than 100 items, including bank cards, wallets, car keys and ID cards, of which the suspects could not provide sources. Further investigation showed most of the items were stolen or robbed.
The company allegedly earned a profit of nearly 10,000 yuan (US$1,521) within the first two months.
Police said they received numerous complaints from people who said the company refused to return their belongings unless they paid money.
The company's owner surnamed Zhao said they obtained the items mostly from street cleaners.
