Palace protection
A regulation protecting the 1,300-year-old Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been adopted by the legislature of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
The statute has articles on the planning, administration, research and protection of the structure.
Set on hills in the heart of Tibet’s capital Lhasa, It was built by Tibetan King Songtsa Gambo in the 7th century and expanded during the 17th century by the Dalai Lama. Last year it attracted 830,000 tourists.
