Parents alleged to beat girl to death

POLICE in Guangdong Province have detained a couple for allegedly beating their nine-year-old daughter to death because they suspected she'd stolen their money.
The 40-year-old father surnamed Wang called police after he found the girl's body cold on the ground behind their rented house in the provincial capital of Guangzhou at 1am on Tuesday, reported the Guangzhou Daily yesterday.
The girl's body was covered with numerous bruises and cuts made by sticks, strings and brooms. The police arrested the couple on charge of child abuse.
The girl was the younger of two daughters. The couple also had a son.
Neighbors said they often heard the mother cursing and beating the girl at night, accusing her of stealing money from the grocery.
One neighbor said sometimes the girl had to sleep at a garbage dump site because the mother didn't allow her to eat or sleep at home.
