Parents beat two girls to death
TWO girls have been beaten to death by their mother or father in the past week over study issues in two cities.
The latest victim is a nine-year-old girl who reportedly died on Saturday in Shunde District of Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, according to today's Guangzhou Daily.
Her father allegedly beat her while dragging her to an evening class, neighbors told the newspaper.
During the beating, the girl fell and her head hit the ground. Her father sent her to a nearby hospital but she died.
Her father, a Fujian Province native who ran a noodle restaurant in Shunde, had her body cremated immediately and disappeared from the area with his family.
Local police have started an investigation.
On March 30, a three-year-old girl died in Jiashan City of east China's Zhejiang Province, after allegedly being beaten by her mother the night before because she failed to recite a poem, according to today's Qianjiang Evening News.
An autopsy found she died from massive bleeding in the brain, meaning she had been hit on her head before death.
The mother is on bail on a charge of negligent homicide.
