Parents get stolen baby back

THE biological parents of a newborn baby rescued by the police in a human trafficking case in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province have been found after a DNA test, China Central Television reported today.

Four of the suspects were arrested while two others were under residential surveillance, and three officials of the hospital where the trade was made were dismissed, according to Xinhua news agency.

On July 17, a women surnamed Dong, who gave birth to a baby boy in Fuping County Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, was deceived by hospital officials who told her the baby had congenital diseases and persuaded her to renounce her rights to the child.

The baby boy, allegedly sold for 21,600 yuan (US$3,494) by the hospital, was rescued by the police. “The boy was in good condition,” police said.

After a DNA test, the baby boy was confirmed as Dong's son.

The suspects have been accused of stealing and selling newborns. Six similar cases were under investigation by local police.
