Parents investigated over daughter's torture

POLICE in southwestern China's Guizhou Province have detained a couple for allegedly torturing their six-year-old daughter with red-hot pokers and nails over several years.
Zhang Zhou and Luo Mei allegedly confessed that they had forced her to kneel down on boards of nails, thrashed her with wires and burnt her buttocks and lips with heated fire tongs, reported today's Guizhou Metropolis Daily.
Police in Bijie City detained the couple for five days while they investigate.
The couple allegedly said they tortured the girl because she refused to do her homework, the report said. Police were called when a teacher called the police and local women's union after noticing her scars.
