Parents receive compensation after school blamed for son's death

THE parents of a 5-year-old boy who died earlier this month after he was carelessly left on a school bus in Dexing City will receive more than 470,000 yuan (US$76,052) in compensation, according to the local government's publicity department.

Xu Yaxi lived in Huaqiao County in Dexing and went to a private kindergarten.

On June 17, the school bus arrived at the kindergarten as usual, but the driver surnamed Yin locked the bus without realizing Xu was still on it.

Yin found Xu unconscious on the bus that afternoon when it was time to take the other children home. He rushed Xu to a hospital with the kindergarten's principal but he could not be revived.

Police closed down the kindergarten after the incident. Yin and the principal have been detained by police, according to the local government.

"An investigation team has been set up to check all school buses," said Wang Huaxin, director of the Publicity Department of Dexing. "The government has sent officials to pacify the boy's parents in Nanchang City, where they both work and will pay 473,200 yuan in compensation."
