Paris stay puts more officials on corruption charges

FOUR government officials in east China's Zhejiang Province have been arrested for corruption, following an investigation into another official who has refused to return from Paris.
The latest official arrested is Dai Guosen, dean of Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone Administrative Committee, today's Legal Daily reported.
Dai allegedly took more than 5 million yuan (US$731,595) in bribes to provide benefits to others for land use and approval during his tenure between 2003 and 2009, Wenzhou City disciplinary supervisors told the report.
The other three arrested were Liu Ting, former deputy director of the Wenzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperative Bureau, Zheng Qiming, former director of the Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone Planning Bureau, and Yu Xinqiang, former deputy director of the Wenzhou State Taxation Bureau.
The arrests came after an investigation by the central and local disciplinary supervising authorities into Yang Xianghong, the former Party secretary of Wenzhou's Lucheng District and a member of the Communist Party of China's Wenzhou Committee.
Yang absconded in September while on an official visit to France and has refused to return.
He has been kicked out of the Communist Party and removed from his post.
Yang's refusal to leave France sparked speculation that he fled because of possible corruption charges. A director of Lucheng's tourism bureau, surnamed Chen, with close links to Yang has also been arrested for bribery.
Yang's wife, You Jie, an official at Wenzhou's old town renovation and re-development department, has also been arrested for allegedly seeking profits by taking advantage of her position and accepting bribes.
She admitted some corruption charges and provided clues which led to the arrests of the four officials, the report said.
