Park cordons off riverbank after crocodiles escape
THREE crocodiles broke loose and ran off yesterday as they were being moved to a new location in the Yancheng Safari Park in Changzhou, eastern Jiangsu Province.
Two were caught yesterday but one remains at large, China News Service has reported.
The runaway crocodile was seen entering a river that joins the city moat, but its handler said the crocodile would not hurt people because its mouth had been tied up before the move.
The crocodiles were being shipped from their hibernation house to an outdoor site yesterday morning. The pickup truck ran too fast and overturned after hitting a pile of sand, allowing the three reptiles to crawl away.
One was caught before reaching the river; the other two disappeared into the river. Park workers managed to haul one crocodile from the river later that day.
The park has suspended all waterside activities and cordoned off the area.
