Partial solar eclipse sighted this morning
Shanghai observed a partial solar eclipse early this morning when the sun turned into a golden crescent in the sky.
The solar eclipse was best viewed in Fujian and Guangdong provinces where people found the sun phasing into a golden ring. Shanghai, outside the path of the annular eclipse, saw only a partial eclipse, eastday.com reported.
The eclipse began at 5:15am and ended at 7:33am over the Shanghai area. The sun changed into a golden crescent at 6:19am when a large part of the fiery orb was obscured by the moon.
Astronomy enthusiasts were advised to take precaution when watching the spectacle because the sunlight was intense and could hurt the eyes.
The next solar eclipse will not be seen in Shanghai until 2020, the experts said.
