Party official commits suicide after facing disciplinary panel
A PARTY official in Yongjia County of east China’s Zhejiang Province has committed suicide after he was questioned by Party disciplinary watchdog over online allegations that he had checked into hotels more than 200 times, implying he kept mistresses, police said.
The official surnamed Wang was the general engineer and member of the Party committee of the county’s industrial and commercial bureau.
Police said he was found dead on Wuyi Mountain in southeast China's Fujian Province in the wee hours of August 3. Insiders revealed that he had thrown himself under a train, www.thepaper.cn reported yesterday.
The accusations against Wang emerged on a local online forum on July 27. The posts claimed that he and his family owned many properties, hinting at corruption, and he had spent more than 200 days at local hotels, implying his promiscuous life.
Wang described the posts, which went viral in the county, as a “malicious attack on me” during an earlier interview with local media. “The claims aren’t true,” he insisted.
Wang claimed that he had worked for local industrial and commercial authorities for nearly 11 years and over that period of time he had to accommodate many guests. An initial police investigation found that the whistleblower surnamed Huang was looking for revenge.
Huang and his business partner Mou Jia had planned to set up a second-hand car dealers market. But Wang didn’t approve the project because of some dispute over the land.
On July 27, Mou asked his cousin Mou Yi, a local police official, to ferret out Wang’s personal information and gained access to his records in hotels, which Huang posted on the Internet, police revealed.
Huang, Mou Jia and Mou Yi have been detained by police for illegally obtaining personal information about people.
