Party official on corruption charges
A FORMER senior Communist Party of China official in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has appeared in court on corruption charges.
Bai Zhiming, former deputy secretary-general of the region's Party committee, is charged with accepting 10.5 million yuan (US$1.7 million) in bribes between 2001 and 2008, according to a statement released by Chifeng City's Intermediate People's Court.
The 57-year-old is also accused of possessing public assets worth 5 million yuan over the seven-year period, during which he also held other government posts. He gained 7.6 million yuan in illegal earnings and 7.4 million yuan from an unknown source, prosecutors said.
Police seized a hunting gun and 177 rounds of ammunition after arresting him in November last year, the court said.
