Passenger finds there’s no such thing as a free lunch
A PASSENGER who threw food at a flight attendant in protest at meals not being free has been fined 500 yuan (US$80) and ordered to pay compensation, Chongqing-based budget airline West Air said yesterday.
It said that when the passenger found out he would be charged for his lunch, he grabbed his neighbor’s meal and flung it at the cabin crew member.
The incident happened on a flight from Ningbo in east China’s Zhejiang Province to Changsha in central China’s Hunan Province last week.
The passenger was taken away by police when the plane landed at Changsha airport on Friday.
In January, two people, upset at delays to a China Eastern flight, were detained after opening emergency exit doors as the plane was taxiing, forcing it to abort takeoff in the southwestern city of Kunming.
In December, a flight from Thailand to China was forced to return to Bangkok after a passenger threw hot water at a flight attendant. Chinese media branded four passengers on board as “barbarians.”
