FORTY-SEVEN passengers who refused to get off a plane and insisted on scheduled take-off despite a thunderstorm were persuaded to leave the plane by armed police.
Hainan Airlines' Flight HU7760 was scheduled to take off from Wuhan Airport in central China's Hubei Province at 7:40pm on Monday and arrive in Urumqi in northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region 3 ? hours later.
However, the flight was cancelled due to a thunderstorm and was postponed to take off the next morning. The change drew protests from the 47 passengers, Wuhan Evening Post reported today.
They stayed on broad and asked for cash compensation instead of free accommodation provided by the airlines.
Around 11:30pm, six armed police officers entered the plane and told them that if they didn't leave within 24 hours, they would be punished by law. Fearful of police custody, they left the plane, the paper said.
Their unlawful act also drew criticism from other passengers because their farce caused their flight to be delayed by two more hours the next morning.
