Patient detained for assault on pregnant nurse

A patient was detained for 12 days for beating a pregnant nurse after a wrangle at a hospital in east China's Hangzhou City, police said today.

The patient Pu went to see a doctor at the Second Affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine on Thursday and quarreled with nurse Wang while waiting to see the doctor.

Wang was 10 weeks pregnant and Pu continued the assault even when she knew Wang was pregnant. Wang suffered slight injuries.

Pu was detained for 12 days and fined for 1,000 yuan (US$163).

Wang is in stable conditions, police said.
