Paying visitors upset zoo has only dogs, rats
VISITORS to a zoo in Luohe, a city in central He’nan Province, complained that they had been defrauded because after paying a fee to get in, they were shown only dogs and other common animals instead of lions or wolves, a local newspaper reported today.
Adults were charged 15 yuan (US$2.45) for a ticket, which was printed by zoo itself. However, in enclosures that should have held lions, wolves, leopards and snakes instead they saw large Tibetan mastiff dogs, fox-like animals and rats.
Bombarded by complaints, the local development and reform commission started an investigation and found that the zoo, located in People’s Park, had never gotten approval to charge fees, Orient Today reported.
Yu Hua, who is in charge of the park, said an individual has contracted for years to run the zoo.
A further official investigation is under way, the newspaper reported.
