Peking University student wanted by police for murdering his mother

A 22-year-old Peking University student is wanted by police in Fuzhou on suspicion of killing his mother, The Beijing News reported on Friday.

Xie Tianqin was found dead at her residence at a teachers’ dormitory of a secondary school in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on February 14 and her son, Wu Xieyu, is a suspect.

Fuzhou police said the killer put the victim’s body on the bed and used plastic sheet to wrap her up with some activated carbon fabric to avoid smell. Wu also installed surveillance cameras in the room and connected them with his computer. After killing his mother, Wu allegedly applied for a loan under her name.

Peking University’s official microblog on Thursday said it would cooperate fully with the police investigation.

Wu was said to be an outstanding student and always scored high marks. One of his university mates said they lost contact with him since middle of 2015. “He did very well in his studies and was preparing for a GRE test to go abroad. We are shocked at the latest news.”

Xie, a widow, was a history teacher in a secondary school.

“She was a very nice person who took good care of her students,” said one of her former students.

Fuzhou police have announced a reward of 30,000 yuan for clues about the case. They have also announced a reward of 50,000 yuan to catch the suspect.
