Peng Liyuan is best-dressed first lady, Vanity Fair says
China’s first lady Peng Liyuan, a global style icon with her choice of attire, sails onto Vanity Fair’s annual International Best-Dressed List this year.
Peng is attracting global attention with her classic glamour and fashion sense. She favors smart suits, sensible handbags and elegant designs by an independent homegrown label. Her husband, Chinese president Xi Jinping, and her job as a UN World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador take her to exotic locales.
And a trip to Russia this spring solidified her status as a style icon. "She's known to be elegant and fashionable,” real estate agent Chen Li told the AP in March.
“But she's also very low-key and doesn't seem arrogant in the way that you usually associate with the wives of top leaders." Perhaps that elegance is what put Peng on Vanity Fair's renowned round-up, which also includes royal families, top athletes and pop singers.
