People visit scenic spots during holiday
CHINA’S main tourist destinations welcomed record numbers of visitors over the long weekend for May Day.
Almost 1.6 million visits were recorded at 26 monitored places in central China’s Hubei Province, an increase of 12 percent from last year.
In Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, 8.2 million people went to touristy places, up 6 percent, said the China National Tourism Administration.
On Sunday in Beijing, a single-day record of 750,000 people went to 11 parks and a garden museum, according to the city’s park management center.
Beijing Zoo, Temple of Heaven, and Summer Palace were three of the most popular.
The number of domestic and overseas tourists visting northwest China’s Shaanxi Province during the three-day holiday rose 29 percent year on year to 20.9 million, according to the provincial government.
In east China’s Shandong Province, the number of tourists surpassed 30 million for the first time in history.
In south China’s Hainan Province, 128,600 visitors people — including some from overseas — visited the seaside resort of Sanya, which was more than 52 percent more than in 2015.
Sanya, Xiamen and Kunming were the top three tourist destinations in China, according to a travel website.
