Petitioner stabs official to death

A PETITIONER killed an official in northeastern China Heilongjiang Province before he committed suicide by taking poison yesterday morning.

Wei Guangchun, an official in charge of the reception of petitioners in Yichun City, died after Yu Guishuang stabbed him with a knife and punctured his right lung, dbw.cn news Website reported today.

Yu Guishuang was a long-time petitioner, the report said. He arrived at Wei's office building yesterday morning, shouting that he would kill all the officials in the building.

Wei tried to calm Yu down and invited him into his office. But Yu suddenly took out a knife and stabbed Wei between his ribs. Wei died from loss of blood.

Yu took an unidentified poison after escaping the crime scene. He died shortly afterwards, the report said.

This is the second violent attack against Chinese government officials this month.

On June 1, a man named Zhu Jun barged into a court office in central China Hunan Province and killed three judges and injured three more with submachine guns and two pistols, before he shot himself dead.
