Picture of kindergarteners sandwiched below teacher upsets parents

A PHOTO showing a smiling female teacher of a kindergarten in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, sitting above three rows of children, separated by the cushions, shocked the children’s parents, Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported today.

The photo was taken yesterday morning during a sports class at the No. 1 Kindergarten Affiliated with Changsha Normal University, which was uploaded via QQ, an instant messaging service, and appeared in the chat group used by parents and teachers.

The heads of some of the children in the photo drooped and some had an expression on their faces that appeared to indicate discomfort.

“How can the kids, almost four to five years old, bear the heavy weight of the teacher, especially the kids at the bottom?” a parent asked.

An official of the kindergarten, surnamed Xue, told a reporter yesterday that it is just a common training exercise.

Xue said the game aims to develop the ability of the kids to handle pressure and enhance their spirit of unity and cooperation as well.

Their safety was totally under control, a teacher in charge of the sports education of the kindergarten said.

Xue explained that the teacher in the photo is good at dancing, and was posing only at the end of the exercise.
 
The kindergarten will hold a parents’ meeting to explain it to the adults, Xue also said.

Ma Mo, an expert from Xiangtan University, suggested that the kindergarten should stop such risky activities. Children in the middle or at the bottom could suffer injuries that would not be easy to detect.
