Pigs Test Positive
TWO samples taken from pigs two weeks ago at a Hong Kong slaughterhouse have tested positive for the H1N1 virus, health authorities said yesterday.
The samples did not show mutations, and the virus remained genetically similar to the swine flu found in humans.
Experts said the findings indicate that the virus detected in pigs had been transmitted from humans.
The risk of humans contracting the virus has not increased, authorities said, adding that it is safe to eat pork and pork products handled properly and cooked thoroughly.
