Pilot's death confirmed
A PILOT was confirmed dead yesterday after he went missing when his plane crashed on Friday during an air show in northwest China.
The announcement was made by Jin Qiansheng, an official from the Yanliang National Aviation High-tech Industrial Base, during the International General Aviation Convention 2011 in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province.
A plane crashed after finishing its performance in Pucheng County, where a three-day air show is being staged for an ongoing aviation convention.
The dead pilot was seated in the front of the plane, while the plane's second pilot survived by ejecting before the crash, Jin said.
The surviving pilot, who suffered no serious injuries, is currently being examined at a local hospital, Jin said.
The plane has been identified as an FBC-1 fighter jet, also known as a Flying Leopard, which is manufactured by Xi'an Aircraft Industry Corp.
Jin said the jet is not currently in service, but was invited to the show by an institute affiliated with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
"Whatever setbacks and problems we encounter, we must proceed without hesitation," Jin said.
