CHINA has launched a crackdown on piracy of films made to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, including all-star epic "Jian Guo Da Ye," or "The Founding of A Republic," and spy thriller "Feng Sheng," or "The Message."
Any pirated copies of the films will be confiscated, while production dens will be destroyed, the national work team on pornographic and illegal publications said yesterday on its Website.
The DVD versions of "Jian Guo Da Ye" and "Feng Sheng" are scheduled to be released on October 16 and November 13 respectively.
"Any versions of the two on the market before scheduled dates are pirated copies," the notice said.
"Jian Guo Da Ye," which recounts Chinese history from 1945 to 1949, has made more than 230 million yuan (US$34 million) at the box office since it opened on September 16.
"Feng Sheng," which tells the story of how the Japanese-controlled puppet government finds an undercover agent among five suspects during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), will open today.
