Plane forced to land due to alarm in cargo hold
A PLANE was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday after a fire alarm sounded in its cargo hold shortly after takeoff from an airport in east China’s Anhui Province.
Hainan Airlines flight HU7244 took off from Hefei Xinqiao International Airport and was bound for Guangzhou.
Airport official Fang Yangming said it was carrying 160 passengers and crew.
After the alarm sounded, it immediately returned and landed about 10am, he said.
No one was hurt in flight, but during the evacuation eight people suffered injuries, he said without elaborating.
A team of firefighters was unable to determine what had sparked the alarm, but water was sprayed into the hold as a precautionary measure, the official said.
Work safety authorities have begun an investigation into the incident.
