Plane lands successfully after malfunction scare

A flight bound for Shenyang City of northeast China’s Liaoning Province has made a successful landing after a faulty instrument forced it to delay descent yesterday.

Flight BK2870, operated by Okay Airways Co Ltd headquartered in Beijing, landed successfully at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport at 8:24pm, more than two and half hours later than the scheduled time, a spokesman with the airline said. No casualties were reported.

Some passengers went out of the main hall of the airport in tears after the plane touched down, including a 21-year-old student surnamed Gong.

“The plane circled over the airport for more than two hours, and some passengers got quite emotional despite the cabin crew’s efforts to calm us down,” a tearful Gong said.

The five crew members of the aircraft are now under investigation, and further details regarding the accident will be published soon, according to the airport.

The aircraft, carrying 38 passengers, took off at 4:42pm from Tianjin Binhai International Airport. It was scheduled to fly to Yanji City of the neighboring Jilin Province via Shenyang, but the rest of the journey has been canceled due to the incident.

Okay Airways began operating in 2005 as the first private airline in China. The company boasts 23 airplanes.

The malfunctioning plane, a Modern Ark (MA)-60 model made by China’s Xi’an Aircraft Industry Co, is one of 11 MA-60 aircraft owned by Okay.
