Planes rescue Chinese

A third chartered plane carrying 185 Chinese nationals from Kyrgyzstan landed at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, late last night, the Foreign Ministry said.

By now a total of 380 Chinese nationals have returned home by Chinese chartered flights. Meanwhile, a fourth chartered plane has left Urumqi for the Kyrgyz city of Osh to fly home more Chinese living in southern Kyrgyzstan.

The Chinese government, late Monday, sent two Boeing 737-700 passenger planes to Osh to pick up 195 Chinese nationals living in southern Kyrgyzstan.

More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.

About 90 Chinese nationals were still in Jalalabad and Batken in southern Kyrgyzstan. The Chinese Embassy was working to transport them to safety.

China also delivered the first shipment of humanitarian aid worth 5 million yuan (US$735,000) to Kyrgyzstan yesterday afternoon aboard the charter flight.

The aid includes medicine, medical equipment, food, drinking water, blankets and tents, according to the Foreign Ministry.
