Plans for Angry Birds park
ANGRY Birds addicts may soon get the chance to knock over actual green pigs at China's first real-life Angry Birds theme park in Shanghai's neighboring Zhejiang Province.
Talks are under way about the possibility of an Angry Birds Land, with activities based on the popular Finnish smartphone game, opening in Yanguan Town of Haining City later this year, Wang Wei, director of the management committee of the Yanguan scenic area, said yesterday.
Yanguan is famous for the Qiantang River tide, one of China's natural wonders which has a crest as high as 9 meters.
"The theme park is likely to be built along the 1.5 kilometer coastline of Qiantang River where the tide will surge ahead beside the park," Wang said.
Park designers from a partner of Rovio Entertainment, the game's creator, were yesterday checking out the site. Greg Holt, group creative design manager of Sanderson Group International, said details were under negotiation.
Wang said the Chinese park could involve some local characteristics, such as the tide, to differentiate it from one already open in Finland.
"Rovio may also launch a new Haining-tide version mobile phone game of Angry Birds, like Angry Birds Rio, in concert with the opening of the theme park," Wang said.
The world's first Angry Birds Land opened in Tampere, in southwest Finland, on April 28, with entry at 35 euros (US$44.7).
Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio's chief marketing officer, said earlier that he hoped the Angry Birds theme park in China would be open before the completion of the Shanghai Disneyland project.
