Playing golf costs a vice mayor his post
THE vice mayor of a city in southeast China’s Fujian Province has been sacked for belonging to a golf club and playing when he should have been working.
Lin Chunsong, vice mayor of Wuyishan, was paying much less than other members to play, according to Xinhua news agency.
When a campaign against membership of private clubs for provincial officials kicked off in 2013, he changed the name of his membership and carried on playing, Xinhua said.
Between June 2013 and August 2015, Lin played 163 rounds of golf at his club, 12 of which were during working hours, Xinhua said, citing a report prepared by the local anti-graft watchdog.
The government’s ongoing campaign against corruption, waste and extravagance has been uncovering details of the sometimes luxurious lives of officials who are supposed to live on modest sums and lead morally exemplary lives.
