Police acquitted 6 years after serving his jail sentence
A former police chief in northern Shanxi Province finally cleared his name in court six years after he finished serving a two-year sentence for corruption.
When receiving the long-awaited acquittal, Li Qingming, the former director of Hongtong County Public Security Bureau in Linfen City, burst into tears in the court, Beijing-based Law Weekend reported today.
But Li said he was still fighting the battle to regain his government position and Party membership, both stripped off after he was accused of embezzling 21,800 yuan (US$3262) and taking bribes of 41,300 yuan in September 2003.
Li, 44, said he was taken away for interrogation one night in 2002, three days after he was nominated for the post of deputy director of Linfen City Public Security Bureau.
More than 10 police officers searched his home for seven hours that night but found no evidence of Li's alleged corruption.
