Police arrest man over attack on bank vehicle
A MAN surnamed Zhang, 52, was arrested on Monday night on charges of attacking an armored bank vehicle in Lipu County of Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Police headquarters said Zhang, who was driving a motorcycle and wearing a helmet and a raincoat, sprayed ammonia brine from a modified fire extinguisher at two security guards standing beside the vehicle at 7:45am on April 13 in Lipu.
The man fled after the attack, leaving the spray and motorcycle behind. One of the guards was taken to hospital to have his eyes flushed, but is in good condition, police said.
Nothing was taken from the armored bank vehicle, which belongs to a branch of the China Postal Savings Bank.
After eight days, police considered Zhang, a native of Lipu, as the main suspect. They arrested him in Yongfu Village in Shuangjiang Town of Lipu.
Police said Zhang confessed, but his motives are still being investigated.
