A man suspected of fatally stabbing a senior official in an elevator has been arrested, the Inner Mongolia Morning Post reported yesterday.

On March 6, Sun Qing'an, 59, vice-chairman of the city committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Liaoyuan, Jilin Province, was stabbed several times in the neck and chest in front of his wife in an elevator at his residence.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Li Xiaopeng, an unemployed driver, and the authorities launched a manhunt.

Officers apprehended the fugitive on Thursday morning when they raided the apartment where he was hiding in the city of Chifeng. They have handed him over to the authorities in Jilin.
