Police assistant held after shooting

A POLICE assistant has been detained following a fatal shooting in central China鈥檚 Hubei Province, according to Xinhua news agency.
Police in Badong County said Wang Renbao was shot in the stomach during a party on December 7 organized by Wang Zhihong.
He died later in hospital.
Police didn鈥檛 say how Wang, a staff member at the karaoke venue where the party was held, was shot but a statement released by the county鈥檚 Party committee referred to an accident caused by police assistant Dong Shijun鈥檚 improper handling of an air rifle.
Wang Zhihong, a prison guard, has been suspended from his post, Xinhua reported, and Dong detained.
Wang Renbao鈥檚 girlfriend, who wasn鈥檛 named, told the Beijing Times that Dong was a member of a group asked to pay 200 yuan (US$30.94) for a broken pitcher at the karaoke venue where she and her boyfriend worked.
She said one of the group had thrown some notes to the ground in anger, later tearing them up.
Wang Renbao had tried to calm things down by inviting the group for snacks, the girlfriend said.
A female KTV worker, asked by Wang Renbao to accompany them, told the paper: 鈥淚 turned back when I wanted to ask Wang Renbao whether he would like to take a taxi with me, but I just saw him collapsing in a pool of blood by the roadside. A man was standing in front of him, with a gun in his hand.鈥
According to the Beijing Times, Dong and Wang Renbao鈥檚 family have agreed to a payment of 620,000 yuan in compensation.
