Police attacker under arrest
POLICE in Guizhou Province have arrested one of three men who attacked an off-duty policeman, stole his gun and then shot him.
Police in Liupanshui City in the southwestern China province found the gun and bullets in a field at Dingqi Town after one of the suspects, Jin Jin, gave himself up on Monday, according to the Guizhou City News.
Jin and two other suspects, Chu Yongjiang and Yang Guangjian, all armed with knives, attacked Chi Zhongyan at 2:23am on Saturday, grabbed his gun and shot him twice when he fought back. There were four bullets remaining in the gun.
Chi, a policeman at Nake Police Station in the city's Liuzhi Special District, was shot in the legs but is now in a stable condition. He was returning home from work when he was attacked.
Police launched a massive manhunt raiding homes, hotels, bars and stopping taxi and moped drivers.
Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu called for a quick resolution and the Liuzhi Special District government offered a 50,000-yuan (US$7,310) reward for the arrest of the gang on Sunday.
Villager Jin Yunlin told policemen when they came to his home that his sun Jin Jin was probably one of the suspects. The villager said his son had returned from Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, 10 days previously but did not come home. He called home however and asked if anyone had been looking for him.
Jin Jin called home again on Monday and admitted to his father that he was involved in the attack. His father persuaded him to surrender and later that night Jin Jin went to a local police station.
Jin had been sent to prison for two years in June 2007 for robbery with a knife.
