Police building explosion traced to combustible fertilizer
AN explosion occurred in a building belonging to the Zhengzhou City Public Security Bureau in Henan Province yesterday morning. The blast caused no casualty or damages and it was caused by the spontaneous combustion of nitrophosphate fertilizer stored in the building.
Henan Business News reported that the blast happened in the stairwell of the building at 3:25am yesterday. The fertilizer was confiscated by the police and stored temporarily in the stairwell. Explosives experts said high temperature can cause nitrophosphate to burn on its own.
But rumors circulated on the Internet that the explosion was set off on purpose. An official with the Zhengzhou City Public Security Bureau rejected the rumors yesterday afternoon.
"It's impossible for strangers to enter the building because we have guards and a security system," the official said. "Besides, when the explosion occurred, all of our staff working in the building had gone home. No one was in the building."
