Police bust gun-trading ring, seize 6,990 guns

AN illegal firearms production and trafficking ring has been destroyed by railway police in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province. Police seized 84 ring members and 6,990 guns, Chinanews.com reported today.
Back in late March, police discovered three imitation guns during a routine luggage check at a train station in Kunming and succeeded to track down an underground gun-trading ring. Within four months they confiscated 1,612 lethal guns and 5,378 imitation guns.
In a joint raid that began on June 16, police arrested gun and bullet manufacturers in Kunming and caught dealers and some buyers in Fujian, Guangdong, Guizhou and Henan provinces. One ring leader escaped but surrendered to police a month later.
It was a close-knit gun-trading network. They had underground workshops and smuggling channels and sold firearms to buyers through the Internet.
China's law bans anyone from making and selling firearms, otherwise, they will face a maximum punishment of life imprisonment, the report said.
