Police bust large criminal gang in Guangzhou
POLICE in south China's Guangdong province said today they had arrested all members of a 64-strong gang on suspicion of multiple crimes in the provincial capital of Guangzhou.
The gang face charges including intentional injury, illegal imprisonment, creating disturbances and forcible trading, according to Cui Ran, an officer with the city's public security bureau.
On March 16, nearly 400 policemen in Guangzhou captured the gang members and confiscated a gun, 200 bullets, gunpowder, knives and drugs, Cui said.
In 2008, the gang, led by a man surnamed Wang from the southwestern city of Chongqing, formed a transport company in Guangzhou and police suspect they began to use violence to monopolize the transport business at a flower market, he explained.
The gang also allegedly forced other transport workers at the market to hand in money in exchange for "protection," said Cui.
