Police cars smashed in chaos caused by accident
A CLONED military vehicle was set ablaze by angry people last night after self-claimed armed police beat a taxi driver for a rear-end collision. Some police cars were smashed in the chaos as well, police in the south China city of Nanning said today.
The fake military MPV crashed into the taxi in an accident but the driver surnamed Chen asked the cabbie to pay compensation and beat him up for protesting. Their scuffle soon drew a big crowd.
As police were about to bring Chen to a police station for investigation, the agitated cabbie stood in their way to protest. Some onlookers took the chance to burn the vehicle, police said.
Police detained a few suspects and put out the fire after midnight. The crowd that had swelled to thousands of people then began to disperse.
Witnesses said several police cars were overturned and smashed as well and fake military vehicle plates were found in the burned MPV. Police said their investigation is continuing.
