Police catch 9 suspects for series of explosions
NINE people have been captured for allegedly causing a series of explosions in Wuhan City, capital of central China's Hubei Province.
No one was injured in the blasts, officers said.
Police also seized self-made explosives, bullets, a gun and several vehicles used by the suspects, Wuhan Evening Post reported yesterday.
The suspects, all from outside Wuhan, confessed that they made explosives with gunpowder and firecrackers and did "test explosions" at three places to prepare for bigger blasts.
The case is still under investigation.
The first explosion took place on November 26 on Erqixiao Road in Hankou District. The blast shattered the windows of passing buses and cabs, as well as buildings nearby.
Later, similar explosions occurred in Shuangchang Lane and Zongguan area in Qiaokou District.
Surveillance tapes showed two suspicious men taking a taxi to approach the scene on Erqixiao Road about 5am on November 26. The cabbie told police the two passengers called him over after parking their own car on the roadside, the report said.
Surveillance tapes also showed the same men at the scene of the other two blasts.
Just after midnight on December 5, police stopped a car in Wuchang and caught two suspects. They seized self-made explosives and radios from the vehicle. The other seven suspects were caught later that day.
