Police fix website bug after personal data leak
POLICE in south China's Guangdong Province have fixed a software bug on the website of its entry-exit bureau, which accidentally gave others access to a treasure trove of over 4 million people's personal information.
The bug allowed anyone to enter the database of the bureau's online registration system without a password and username and personal data complete with name, passport number, address and entry-exit record, has leaked to the Internet as a result.
This was the latest website security breach after about 90 million website passwords had been released online by hackers.
Guangdong Province Public Security Bureau admitted the problem and fixed the bug after its discovery, it said on its official microblog on Weibo, China's Twitter-like service.
Police warned that any form of website hacking to steal data is illegal and will be dealt with severely.
