Police free kidnapped toddler

POLICE rescued a two-year-old girl being held at knife-point early yesterday after 13 hours of negotiation with a kidnapper in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Police said the girl was uninjured by the time they arrested the kidnapper, a 40-year-old drug addict named Wang Lixin.

They said the motive for his action is unknown.

Police in Inner Mongolia's Wuhai City were alerted on Wednesday afternoon that a girl had been snatched in a business area by a man waving a knife.

The area was cleared and armed officers stood by, according to Wuhai police.

The kidnapper demanded to leave the area and a woman officer, pretending to be the girl's relative, drove them away while police tracked the car using GPS technology.

The car was stopped in Shizuishan City in the neighboring Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region early yesterday.

Shizuishan police joined with their peers from Wuhai in the negotiation effort and officers finally freed the girl yesterday evening.
